Signed Color Presentation Portrait – Admiral Felix B. Stump To Adm. Hopwood.

This official Navy color photograph of Admiral Felix Budwell Stump (1894-1972), poses in dress blue uniform behind his desk.  Some of his service included being a flight officer in Torpedo Sqd 2 (VT-2 “Doer Birds”) on the experimental carrier Langley. In the early 30’s he served as a navigator on Saratoga’s Scout Bombing Sqd, and in the late 30’s serving as navigator on Lexington, then Enterprise.

During WWII he was Asiatic Fleet, and awarded the DSM.  In 1944, Stump was promoted to Rear  Admiral and took command of Task Unit 52.11.2 and Carrier Division 24, embarking on the escort Corregidor for operations against Saipan. He was awarded the Navy Cross in Oct. 1944 for battles at Leyte Gulf, and Samar.

In the post war era, Admiral Stump was commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic Fleet, 1948-51, then commander of the 2nd Fleet in 1953.  He achieved the rank of full admiral in 1958 as Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet until his retirement in August of that year.  Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood replaced him in that command.

The signed presentation reads, “To my good and trusted friend of many long years Adm Herbert G. Hopwood with my warm regards and appreciation.  Felix B. Stump / C. in C. Pacific, 1958.”
