Description
Soldiers’ National Cemetery At Gettysburg, With Map Plates. Contains the address of Major General O.O. Howard, Delivered July 4, 1866. Printed at Harrisburg, Singerly & Myers, State Printers, 1867. Cloth bound, 282 pages, with fold-out map of the Grounds, map plate of the Civil War Hospitals at Gettysburg, and an engraving of the National Monument to be erected (frontispiece).
The book contains the list of names of soldiers buried in the cemetery, listed by section (state). Also a list of articles taken from the bodies that were removed to the cemetery, many of the items had their names on them, such as letters. bibles, combs, rings, photographs, knives, and much, much more with the names of the soldiers.
Also listed is the procession for the Consecration of the National Cemetery on the 19th of November, 1863., the military units participating in the ceremonies. President’s Letter (Andrew Johnson) on July 3, 1865. And the speech by Governor Curtin, of Pennsylvania.
The cover shows wear, mostly around the upper and lower sections of the spine, and corners. Otherwise a tight copy. Has an ownership printed label on inside cover, “J.Wesley Rose, West Philadelphia.”
A great book for the Civil War library, and for the Gettysburg collector.
