Spanish American War Era 1st South Carolina haversack with sling and cup. Issued to the 1st Regiment, Co. A.  A new tag attached reads, “Wallace,” and a faded name appears on the back of the bag, “H.E. W…” I assume someone recently know more about this ID. This M1898 haversack shows honest use, with a 1902 pattern russet sling attached along with the large type militia drinking cup.

The 1st South Carolina was a Federalized unit, who spent several months in service at various camps, but were not sent on to Cuba,  Company A, was made up of the Abbeville Volunteers. I did not find a Wallace in Co. A roster.
