12th U.S. Infantry haversack, pattern 1878 with sling. – SOLD

12th U.S. Infantry, Company “F” haversack, pattern 1878 with sling.  Pen ID on inside bag.  Black bridle leather sling. A well used haversack showing field use.  The inside of the flap has been cut alone the top by the soldier to create another pocket for presumably additional clothing, etc.  Leather shows wear, with some areas of heavier wear, but leather is sound.

The 12th Infantry took part in the 1890-91 Pine Ridge Campaign, during the Ghost Dance troubles.

Very good, and great for a combat dress display.
