Most likely German made, of wool with finish side to the rear.
TCQC Pocket Patch – HIGH ANGLE HELL / 81 (Mortars), (TCQC- Tank Crew Qualification Course). Shield shaped patch on white wool (finish side to the back), with red, blue, green, and black embroidery.
The practice of using these patches began in Germany during the 1960s to early 1980s, but was banned by the army, and this type of a badge was assimilated into the existing marksmanship badges program.
See William K. Emerson’s book, “Marksmanship In The U.S. Army,” page 100 for more in depth information on these un-authorized qualification patches.
3 1/4 inches high.
