Traders- Storekeepers Tobacco Cutting Board. This cutting board and blade were probably intended for traveling, lending to the idea that it was used by either a trader who ventured to tribes, or a traveler, because it handle collapses on the rib of blade, and contents previously cut stay tucked away in the sliding draw.
The wood appears to be Mahogany, and the blade is meant to rest on a piece of ebony (sliding loose has caused worn wood where the blade has traveled). The handle is made of brass. There is no name of a maker on this piece.
Measures 5.5 inches x 1 inch high. (wood base).
A neat item.
