Description
USS LAMSON (DD-18 or DD-328)- Cap Tally.
An early 4 stacker laid down in 1908 in Philadelphia. Commissioned in 1910, and assigned to the Atlantic Squadron. She was sent to the Dominican Republic to support the landing of Marines during the troubles there in 1916, and then sailed for the Gulf of Mexico to join the fleet operation in the Gulf of Mexico during the on going crisis around Veracruz.
During WWI, Lamson patroled and convoyed in the North Atlantic, and aided in neutralizing the U-Boat threat. USS Lamson was decommissioned in 1919.
DD-328, was commissioned in 1921, and was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet, operating in the Caribbean, until decommissioned in a few short years in 1930. If the tally is from this Lamson, then it would make it a bit more scarce I think, but most of the ship tallies being offered are seeming the earlier period ships.
The black silk tally is 37 x 1.5 inches, and the ship’s lettering is weak with some remnants of gilt remaining, presently taking on a bluish hue.
Very good condition.
