Description

Found recently in its original box and printed wrapper, is a very well made and hand painted souvenir from the Great War.  The light brown paper wrapper is entitled, “Le Jouel artistique Francais par le Mutilede la Guerre/  27 bis Rue Naujac,   Bordeaux.”  Translated (my best shot) The French artistic jewel by the wounded of the War.

The wooden letter opener is 11 1/8 inches long, and is wonderfully painted with a helmeted French Poilu, laurel, a series of blue chevrons, and a flaming bomb, the insignia for French infantry.  The solder has painted his initials JOB on the piece.

The wrapper has the original tear, when first exposing this souvenir, and the blue embossed, floral decorated paper box.  Some condition problems with the box, but thankfully this all has remained together just over a hundred years.

First on of these we’ve had or seen.
