Description
This lady’s purse of black velvet, has a China- Burma- India patch at its center, no doubt a gift purchase in New Delhi, Indian, by a veteran for his wife or sweetheart. I have several of these over the years, but not one display quite the array of colors this one possesses. The maker, Jaget Narain, states on his printed label on the inside that “genuine gold and silver threads” were used, along with green, turquoise, light blue, pink threads, enhancing the bullion work. The patch, uses red silk thread and silver bullion, with a hint of dark blue around the Chinese star. A fine twisted wire defines the various segments of the insignia.
On the reverse, a simple gold and silver floral pattern decorate the applied section of velvet with an opening for the hand to grasp more easily. Black silk lined with three compartments.
Nearly 4 3/4″ x 8″ as viewed.
Condition is excellent. A wonderful example.
