Description
By the 1820s on, the American militiaman’s waist belt had narrowed from the wide 2 1/2-3 inches to just a few or less, as with this belt being 1 3/4 inches. The leather is in fine condition, as is the adjustment strap for buckle on the underside.
The simple rectangular brass belt plate measures 2 1/2 x 2 1/8 approximately, and is original to the belt, with keeper matching perfectly being sewn on the belt.
Two holes were made for the hanging musket tools (placed about 3 inches for waist size); double brass chains suspended from a belt ring that hold the brass vent pick and brass encapsulated horse hair brush, which is showing wear.
All original, and a super example.
