Description

Having had an incredible amount of material belonging to career cavalry officer, Colonel Edward M. Offley, we tried to keep the collection intact for years now, but sadly I must break up the collection in the attempt to move it along. There will be single and small lots, as well as larger groups with combinations of uniforms, insignia, photo and or paper, etc.  All lots offered will be titled, “Colonel Edward M. Offley Collection.

Framed by the grandson of Colonel Offley in 1998 (this framing not date, but another lot framed by the same framer was dated), are an original pair of 1st. Sergeant Edward M. Offley’s pattern 1872 chevrons. The chevrons show some soiling and some mothing, yet present well in the frame.

A brief history on the back, states that Offley was appointed to this rank in June of 1900, while serving in Troop “G,” 1st U.S. Cavalry at Fort Meade, South Dakota.  Shortly after this date, Offley was honorably discharged, allowing him to accept a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant of cavalry, and was then transferred to the 12th Cavalry, as commander of Troop “F.”

Framed in a metallic gilt frame measuring 12×18 inches approximately.

The discharge document for 1st Sergeant Offley is offered in #3 Col. Offley Collection.
