Description

Probably taken in the Spring of 1863, this great outdoor view shows the camp of the 1st Pennsylvania Reserves (30th Pa. Infantry), with their officers posing above the camp, and men in formation in the background. They were mustered into service in July of 1861, for 3 years. They took part in many engagements; 2nd Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spottsylvania, and more.

The image was taken by BRADY. The corners have been clipped, and the top of the mount has been trimmed into the image.  A bit light, but still clear, retaining good details.

An inscription on the reverse reads, “Miss Ann Elisa Spear.”  There is a possibility that this was the sister of Andrew Spear, a private in Co. “G” of the regiment.

A great view of a federal camp in Virginia, mid way in the war.
