CDV Signed By First Sergeant Benjamin R. Symonds 59th Massachusetts Infantry SOLD

1st Sergeant Symonds signed the back of this image, “Truly Yours / Benj R. Symonds.”  Later promoted to 1st Lt. and transferred to the 57th Mass stationed at Delaney House, Washington, D.C. (a private residence that was probably HQ or the 1st Division, 9th AC, and where several regiments mustered out from.

CDV Signed By First Sergeant Benjamin R. Symonds 59th Massachusetts Infantry.

Benjamin R. Symonds was an 18 year old milkman from South Danvers, Ma. when he mustered into Co.C. as a private of the 5th Mass Infantry in August of 1862. He mustered out on July 2, 1863.  In March of 1964, Symonds was mustered in as a sergeant into the 59th Mass Infantry, and was later 1st sergeant and 1st Lt. of Co. H.  He transferred out at Tennallytown, D.C. going into the 57th Mass, Co. E. and mustering out at Delaney House, Washington, July 30, 1865.
