Model 1874 Type 3 Modified Canteen

Model 1874 Type 3 Modified Canteen. This model 1874 was modified using the Civil War M1858 canteen.  The tin canteen has three rings with the new heavier canvas cover with a 1.5 inch stenciled U.S. on one side, and a crudely written initial “DET” on the other. The pewter spout has the brass spout ring with the new “brass safety chain.” A Chamber’s sling is affixed beneath the two sling guides (the third no used with this 3rd pattern). Note the sling is too short for comfortable wear over the shoulder and may have been shorted for mounted use.

Very good issued and field used Indian Wars canteen with a great look.  All original.
