Civil War Trade Card for James R. Hawley- Union Emblems- Military Ornaments -Cincinnati, Ohio

$125.00

Civil War Trade Card for James R. Hawley- Union Emblems- Military Ornaments -Cincinnati, Ohio. The DIRECTORY OF AMERICAN MILITARY GOODS DEALERS AND MAKERS, by Bazelon & McGuinn, James R. Hawley as having his business in Boston. This reference notes that the New Bern, NC, newspaper (Daily Progress), advertised military goods in that paper for Federal troops stationed in that state; items like gauntlets, underclothing, etc.

The address on this card emphatically states that Hawley was sole agent for “EASTERN MANUFACTURERS,” and it make perfect sense that Cincinnati would be an ideal location on the Ohio River to supply the Union army with its uniform needs.  The reverse of the card has the same engraving as seen on period patriotic covers.  Made by F.T. Beard, in 1861, in Ohio.

You can see all of the necessary items they sold.

Approximately 2 x 3 1/4 inches.

Some light staining.  A rare card, first we’ve seen!
