CDV Early Grouping of 3rd U.S. Cavalry Officers At Fort Garland, Colorado

CDV Grouping of 3rd U.S. Cavalry Officers At Fort Garland, Colorado.  This group contains 3 CDVs, first, one of a group of officers on the steps to one of the Officer’s quarters at Ft. Garland. (I have included an downloaded image of the quarters were this image was taken).  The second image shows; Peter D. Vroom, 1st Lt. seated right, John C. Thompson, 2nd Lt. standing, William N. Grier, Col. seated left. The single portrait is John Charles Thompson as 1st Lt.  These images are all taken by Sutterly, Elko, Nevada.

Peter Dumont Vroom, Jr.  Son of New Jersey Governor Peter Vroom.  Lt. and adjutant of the 1st New Jersey Infantry; major of the 2nd New Jersey Cavalry; brevetted LtCol. for gallant and meritorious service during the war. After the war, accepted a commission as 2nd Lt. 3rd U.S. Cavalry and later retired with the rank of brigadier general, Inspector General of the Army.

William Nicolson Grier.  USMA Class of 1835. Mexican War service with the 2nd Dragoons. Enlisted as major and commissioned into the 2nd U.S. Cavalry in 1861. Colonel 1865, 3rd U.S. Cavalry, ret. 1870.

John Charles Thompson, USMA Class of 1866.  2nd Lt. 3rd Cavalry, 1st Lt. and regt. quartermaster 1868; Captain 1879, and died in 1889.

It’s hard finding images of the early Indian Wars period , particularly individuals.

Overall in very good condition. images were taken in their plastic sleeves, so some may so signs of glare.
