Description

Adopted in 1895, replacing the old “French style” forage cap (or Kepi), this cap was not looked upon favorably by the old line officers of the Army, referring to it as that “damned conductor’s cap.”

Made by the The Armstrong Uniforms, of Chicago, this is a cap of fine quality, worn by an officer in the Wisconsin National Guard as evidenced by the side buttons bearing that state’s seal. The fine directly embroidered gilt eagle is done in high relief and boldly centered on the blue wool serge cap, and mohair trim.

The interior show typical wear to the lining and leather sweatband with both have the Armstrong company logo (embossed on the sweatband).  Sizing label reads, “6 7/8.”  The bullion eagle show some toning.

A great example.
