1858 7 Ring Blue Covered Canteen Modified For Cavalry Use. An interesting canteen using blue wool cover with the back panel made up using three separate sections. The leather canteen strap is made from a section of reins, with an iron M1859 iron rein buckle. Attached to the rein/strap leather is a leather thong that is knotted to both the strap and stopper ring. The pewter spout is not contract marked.
The canteen and leather shows use, but all holding and looking good, No markings noticeable.
A fine example of cavalry modified equipment that was used in the Civil War- early Indian Wars era.
