1860 Staff & Field Sword – An Excellent Example Named- SOLD

1860 Staff & Field Sword – An Excellent Example Named.  The sword bears the name of the retailer, “The M.C. Lilley & Co. Columbus, O.” On the other side of the ricasso has what may be a bear, one of the German makers importing blades to retailers in this country. The gilt on all parts is super, retaining most of the original finish, and the nickel scabbard has nearly all the finish with just a bit of minor bubbling of rust under the surface ( rust not visible). The sharkskin grip is fine, showing light wear.  Counter-guard is functional.   Typical 32 inch diamond shaped blade extending up toward the point leaving only the last 9 inches plain.  Geometric designs are etched with the “US and Federal Eagle” motifs and more. The leather washer is present. Named to a “L. Adams.”  Lester Adams is the full name, and was told, he was a naval officer around the turn of the century.  The sword was used by him as a cadet in a military school, but I don’t have these details, only this little that was passed on.

Overall the blade is excellent with light rust areas very small near the point.  One small ding on the scabbard, and overall scabbard and sword are super clean.
