Description
1884 Pattern Infantry Dress Band Coat & Mounted Helmet- Identified. Named on the khaki colored lining, “J.A. Foster.” Inspected with blue ink on the lower khaki cotton lining on the right side, a circular stamp with size “2” at the center. I see “Inspected..and Philadelphia below, and I believe the contractor was G.A. Cowles?
All the buttons are present. with buttons sewn toward the points on cuff panels indicating federal issuance. Light mothing overall with a repaired section to the white wool on the right shoulder tab. Lining is strong with general wear, most of which is on the lower green lining.
The 1881 mounted helmet has its original white worsted wool helmet cording complete. The 1881 eagle helmet plate has the band insignia with the regiment numeral (1) above. All of the helmet furniture are original. Some of the cords show some areas of fraying, but does no detract from the overall appearance.
A scarce uniform for the 1st U.S. Infantry Band from the 1880s-90s.
