Description

This fine polished iron pair of shoe buckles are most likely French, and made in the last quarter of the 18th Century.  Encased in a hollowed wooden box that has been covered in thin black leather, hinged and secured by two small brass hooks; lined in white silk with padding beneath; these buckles make for a fine presentation.

The buckles measure a little over 2 inches in length, by 1 3/4 wide. The opening for the leather strap is 1inch.

Polished to the degree that they give the appearance of silver.  The rosettes, and cone shaped pieces are all applied, and fashioned with flat edges for relief.

I believe this are a gentleman’s pair of buckles.

Wonderful examples of 18th C craftsmanship, rarely encountered in our time, by present day makers.
