2nd Infantry Forage Cap Insignia- Lead/ Pin Backed, with the company letter, “F.”
This is the pattern of 1875 with the crossed rifles, lead backed and pin with an open catch.
Company F took part in the Nez Perce Campaign in 1877-78, and went from Fort Lapwai, Idaho toward Spokane, W.T. to head that tribe off. They spent a good deal of time in the Northwest, and later took part in the 1890-91 incident at Pine Ridge Agency.
