Description
4 Pieces of Blood Stained Confederate Currency.
I bought this lot of 4 pieces of confederate currency from a friend just days ago. He had found these recently after having been laid aside for some time, as he stated in his signed note, “Taken out of the pocket of a Confederate Lt. froc(k) coat by ………….in march 1965 Coat purchased from George Gorman Pa. (signed) ……….”
The blood stained notes are in the order they have been together (each one -top to bottom exhibit more degree of blood stain);
- One Dollar Virginia Treasury Note, July 2, 1862;
- Five Dollar Virginia Treasury Note, March 13, 1862;
- Five Dollar (State of Virginia) Bank of Pittsylvania, Aug 15, 1861;
- Five Dollar Confederate States, Feb. 17, 1864.
These notes show a good deal of wear, and their value is in the history. There is no question of the blood stains, nor the fact that each has been in their original position in the folded stack.
