Description

422nd Night Fighter Squadron WWII- European Theatre – 9th USAAF- 9th TAC, United States-England- France- Belgium- Germany, by Charles McEwen, Jr.  Privately printed by squadron members, First Printing , 1983.  Hard cover, illustrated dust jacket, 113 pages, and well illustrated, with some annotations by the veteran, corrections.

This copy is inscribed by the author (the son of a 422 member), to a member of the unit, and i believe another inscription by the author’s wife, Helen, adding a brief note to “Jeep” (James Bilenki, she pointed him out in a group photo and marked the image with an arrow.

Found within the book, is a period photo of one of the men holding up the large sign showing missions, (from the Confederate Air Force files originally), A letter from the author to Bilenki (J.J.), from 1984, and an addition letter from “Jack” to collector Bob Burrell that accompanied the book, informing Burrell of the cost of the book ($225.50 plus postage).

The book is dedicated to their commander, (later MG) Col. Oris B. Johnson.

With the development of radar, and the great record of the P-61 Night Fighter, the 422 racked up a number of various planes, trans, V-2 rockets, etc. while in Europe. The book contains a list of crews, decorations received, and more.  Nose art, crew photos, individual shots, etc.

I believe limited printing and a very scarce book.  Great having an original photo, and author notes to go with it,

Excellent condition.
