Made to look like a DUI, but intended to be a souvenir of the 88th ID’s time in Italy during WWII. Other than a large banner at the bottom that reads, ” VENICE / JULIA” this insignia looks like a distinctive unit insignia. All enamel uses on main areas is blue, with a hint of red used for the devils eyes and mouth.
Hallmarked on the back, “REMEMBRANCE OF ITALY / YEAR 1947.” Made when the 88th Division was stationed on the the Morgan Line and in Trieste against Yugoslavian Communist in post war Italy, the beginnings of the Cold War issues in Southern Europe.
40 mm high.
Very good condition with a small chip in blue on the left side lower banner near the “V” in Venice.
A very scarce insignia.
