Description
Made by Ames Mfg Co., Chicopee, Mass, and inspected with date 1862. The Model 1840 Non Commissioned Officers sword shows no hard use, but had been issued during the war.
Brass mounts and hilt are in fine condition with brass still having a high degree of untouched patina; some areas having been ever so lightly cleaned at some point over the years. The leather scabbard, has some age stress cracking, but does not effect the strength. Stitching along the entire length of the scabbard is unbroken/ tight.
Typical inspection marks found on the bow of the guard “AHC.” Leather washer between underside of hilt and blade is mostly intact, with a small section (1/2 inch) missing.
The blade has some minor flaws only; very minimal blemishing and scratching, with that said overall condition of the blade is 90% and I’m being harsh.
Great price for a lot of sword!
