Cabinet Photo of Mounted Officer with Army Post in the background – SOLD

Cabinet Photo of Mounted Officer with Army Post in the background.  This officer is mounted and carrying enough equipment to believe he is about to go out on a scouting mission.  He is using a non-regulation issue carbine boot, that is holding what appears to be a Winchester rifle, and going a bit farther, in .45/70 caliber since he is wear his issue cartridge belt in the same caliber.

I don’t recognize the post, but it looks like a well established one, on the plains area.

If I had to guess, I would say this was an infantry officer, only because his shoulder straps appear to be white. Yellow has a tendency to photograph very dark.  The typed label is a new one, and the dating I believe is incorrect; more likely being in the 1880s-90 era.

The photo is 8 x 10 inches, mounted on a dark maroon paper. There is some damage to the mount in the upper right hand corner. Some soiling overall, but overall in very good condition.

No history with this item, but a great image from the late Indian Wars era.
