Description
CDV – Brigadier General William H. Emory.
Graduated from USMA as a topographical engineer, saw service in the Mexican War, and served in Indian Territory at the beginning of the Civil War. He commanded a division in the Port Hudson campaign, and then came back to Virginia with the 19th Corps, and played an important role at the Battle of Cedar Creek in 1864. Emory remained in the Regular Army after the war and had a few Dept. commands, retiring in 1876.
