CDV – Captain A. Piatt Andrew 21st Indiana Independent Battery. Andrew served for three years from Indiana, leaving college to “join the colors” soon after the Civil War began, and at the age of 21 he commanded the artillery battery. He participated in the battles of Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge.
His son, named after him was once the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury 1910 – 1912, founder of the American Field Service in WWI, and a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts.
The upper bust image was taken by J.H. Van Stayoren’s Metropolitan Gallery, Nashville, Tenn. and having a canceled 2 cent revenue stamp applied.
