CDV – Edwin L Joyce 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery -SOLD

Description

Edwin L. Joyce, enlisted in the 4th Mass. Infantry, Co. “H”, on May 22, 1861  and was mustered out on July 22, 1861 at Long Island, Boston Harbor.

He mustered into Co. “M” 1st Mass Heavy Artillery on March 3, 1862, and re-enlisted in March of 1864.  He was killed in action at Petersburg, Va. on June 16, 1864 as sergeant.

His image was signed with his rank and company designation on the front.

Photographed by R.W. Addis, Washington.  There is a small slip of paper with his name and other unit details which was used in a prior collection gathered many year ago, perhaps wartime.
