Description

CDV- General Solomon Van Rensselaer – Adjutant General NYS.  He served in this position from 1801 to 1821 at various times.  He held the rank of Lt. Colonel in the New York Militia during the War of 1812.  Rensselaer was a Federalist congressman in the 16th and 17th Congress. Postmaster of Albany 1822- 39; and was a representative in the state, and present at the opening of the Erie Canal.

The image was taken from the oil portrait below, painted by Ezra Ames, 1819.  No backmark.

Very good condition, with clipped corners.
