Description
CDV – Signed 10th USCT Officer In Texas.
This officer’s signature is weak, and nearly all legible, but the first name looks like a Joseph (abbreviated) instead of it being Julius as listed in the database; Julius Hannemann. He is the only officer this could be. On the back is reads, “To Lt. Ricker, 10 USCT.” This is very weak as well, but clear under magnification. Hannemann wears what appears to be a corps badge suspended from ribbon.
Julius Hannemann was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant on November 18, 1863 into the 10th USCT. He was mustered out on May 17, 1866 in Texas, having served in the Galveston area along the Rio Grande. The regiment has seen service in the Departments of Virginia and North Carolina. Involved in the capture of Fort Powhatan, and campaigned at Petersburg, and around Richmond before parting for Texas in June of 1865. Hannemann was in Co. B, and Nathaniel Ricker another 2nd Lt. was assigned to Co. C. Ricker may have had prior service in the 31st Maine Infantry. He mustered out of the 31st Maine in time to muster into the 10th USCT.
No Photographer back mark.
Good condition, but with descent history.
