Robert A. Church enlisted as a corporal into Co. A. of the 60th NY Vols in September of 1861, and served the entire war rising to the rank of 1st lieutenant and adjutant. The 60th NY saw action at Antietam, Chambersburg, and Gettysburg, and then sent west and became part of Sherman’s Army that marched to the Sea.
