Description

CDV Signed by Captain Charles W. Kennedy 156th New York Infantry.  Charles W. Kennedy, enlisted on August 23, 1862, into Co. F, 156th New York Infantry as a 1st sergeant, and was discharged on June 10, 1865.  He was wounded on June 14, 1863, at Port Hudson, Louisiana.  During the war he held commissions for 2nd, 1st lieutenant and captain.

Signed on the reverse, “Chas. W. Kennedy / Capt. 156th N.Y. Vols.”

The 156th was initially known as the “Mountain Legion.”  The regiment suffered 30 killed and wounded in the assault on Port Hudson. Being part of the 19th Corps, they were transported to the east in late summer of 1864, and assigned to the Army of the Shenandoah, participating in the battles of Winchester, Fishers Hill, Cedar Creek, and Hatcher’s Run.
