CDV – Signed By Captain William H. Whitney 38th Massachusetts Infantry. Signed on the reverse, “Yours Truly / Wm H. Whitney / 38th Mass.
William Henry Whitney, from Cambridge, Ma., enlisted as a private on July 14, 1862 into Co. A, and discharged for wounds on December 20, 1864, at the Battle of Winchester, Va.(Sept 9, 1864).
He also held ranks of 1st sergeant, 1st lieutenant, captain, and breveted major at the end of the war.
Photographed by Warren, Cambridgeport, Ma. and has revenue stamp cancelled with the date “Dec 23, 1864,” a few days after discharged.
Very good condition.
