Description
Civil War Cap Box – T.C. Williams & Co. Contract. Stamped in oval on inner flap, “T.C. WILLIAMS & Co / NEW YORK.”
Theodore C. Williams from New York City received a contract for an unknown number of sets of infantry accoutrements on September 28, 1861, of which about 3500 sets were delivered between Oct and Dec. of that year. It is most likely a small contract, and a once is not commonly seen. (information from Directory of American Military Goods Dealers, attributing Paul Johnson’s Civil War Cartridge Boxes of the Union Infantryman).
Typical sewn and riveted construction. A nice example including the original cone pick.
Very good -fine condition. Wool Fleece worn away. Untouched and a bit dry (not red or flaking leather). Flap will close if lightly forced, but best to leave alone, if you don’t want to apply any conditioner.
A nice example of a scarcer cap box.
