Un-Issued Federal pattern leather neck stock
This Civil War period Federal issue leather neck stock is an un-issued item. The widest point is just over 2 inches. The stock is held on the neck by use of a small black japanned buckle and leather strap.
A piece of uniform equipment that is believed to provide protection to the neck area and to keep the soldier from drooping his head in formation. Not a popular item and discarded by many of the soldiers unfortunate enough to have been issued this stock.
Although un-issued dryness has caused the finish on the leather surface to wear off around the edges and other areas. It can be treated and can be improved upon.
