Description
Probably English or Continental made is this roll-up writing kit made of green moroccan leather. The interior is lined in the same leather and has an integral compartment for writing implements and accessories. There is also a sleeve at the opening of the kit, that allows for placement of stationery. When closed the kit is held together by use of green silk tie straps which are showing there age, being somewhat worn thin for the most part.
The dimensions are 2+ inches diameter x 10 1/2 inches wide when rolled up, and approximately 11 1/2 inches long when opened.
I have taken the liberty to place a few period items within the compartment to enhance the look, including a quill pin (void of its feathers), a small green paper covered box that holds small pieces of seal wax (both red and black), a baleen straight edge rule (un-marked in measures) about 4 5/8 inches long, and a wooden seal with initials.
Generally, the condition overall is very good, with some wear and some loosing of leather on the inside hinge of the accessory compartment. A very nice piece for either the traveling gentleman’s or military camp display.
