Early 19th Century American Officer’s Sword Sash. This came in the box shown, and was identified by the family, who they believed was the original user, “War for Independence Sash from the Harrington Family in Boston Loyalist.” I was told the women who sold this to another collector is no longer with us, and I have done no research on this sash.
I sold one on site, a few years ago, but was not as wide as this one, which easily stretches to a foot wide, more possible. The sash not only signified an officer, or NCO by its use, but is said to be an assist in earlier times, to carry a wounded officer from the field. I don’t think I will try that theory out using this sash.
Constructed of deep red silk, with an overall length of 10.5 feet. 2 inches at the gathering, and loose strands of 13 inches plus total, and knotted leaving tassels of approximately 2 inches. Color is fabulous, condition for its age is absolutely super, with only a few very small holes. The best conditioned knot of this period we’ve offered.
Rare, and in the best condition to hope for.
