Description
George Baxter (1804-1867) is regarded the inventor of color printing. Besides his prints, his was well known for doing his color illustrations for many books, needleboxes, etc.
This print of Sir Robert Peel is signed under the left arm, “Baxter Patentee.” An embossed seal for Baxter is on the mount below the print, and a printed permission to publish notation is on the lower left margin. The condition is fine, measures 4 3/8 x 3 1/8.
Sir Robert Peel (1788- 1850) was Prime Minister twice, 1834-35 and 1841-46; was Home Secretary twice 1822-1830. He had a long career in politics serving in many capacities.
