Description
Hawkins Zouave Officer Dug 3 Piece Clasp Pattern Belt Plate. This pattern buckle is similar to one sold through Cowan Auction in 2021, that was identified to Edward Jardine, a captain in Company G of the 9th New York Infantry Regiment (“Hawkins’ Zouaves”). This buckle is marked “G.B.F. /PARIS” on the back of the “S” hook which connected bosses. Approximately 4 3/4 inches long x 1 3/4 high. One boss shows more damage, while the other boss has survived in better condition having more of the original gilt.
Like the other enlisted plate offered for sale elsewhere, this one was from the collection of Mike McAfee, and devoted collector and historian of Civil War Zouave regiments.
A scarce buckle reasonably priced to sell.
