Description

These two sections of barbed wire were retrieved from Utah Beach by Lt. Col. John F. Reynolds, AUS, (Ret.).  He brought these home after a visit to the Normandy Beaches in May of `1964.  In a typed letter he composed, Reynolds states, ” I hereby certify that the accompanying piece of rusted barbed wire was a part of “Hitler’s Festung Europa” (Fortress Europe), being included in the German beach defenses of Normandy.  This section of barbed wire found and pulled out of the sand near a reinforced concrete gun emplacement on Utah Beach in the vicinity of  Isigny-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, in April 1964.”

He mentioned one section in his letter only;  several years ago, I owned more of this officer’s souvenirs of WWII, and there were a few other barbed wire sections, which I sold with photocopies of this original letter.  You the buyer can keep them together or sell one to recoup if so inclined.

Included are Colonel Reynolds’ ’41 dated Dog Tags on plastic change, his motor vehicle permit and Fort Bragg, N.C. Operators License dated 7/10/42  used as a 1st Lt. when attached to the 79th Field Artillery, these two crusted rusted pieces of pure history.
