Description
This is a nice example of a cadet forage cap worn during the Indian Wars period. Marked on the inside of the crown lining, Cadet Q.M. Dept. U.S.M.A.
The spread-winged federal eagle in gilt is directly embroidered to the cap, with the letters done in silver bullion.
Side buttons are similar to staff buttons with wreath below, and USMA above. The chinstrap with double buckles show the effects of attic heat, but does not detract from the appearance.
There were some moth holes of little consequence that have been restored.
A hard piece of headgear to find.
