Description
Invalid Corps Transfer Document -21st Connecticut Infantry Soldier. On letterhead, “Head Quarters, Depot Camp, Invalid Corps, Harrisburg, Pa., 22nd, Augt. 1863”, addressed to the commanding officer of the 21st Connecticut Infantry, requesting the forwarding of the descriptive list for Private Joshua Verguson, of company “F.” The document is signed by Colonel Charles Mallet Prevost.
Private Verguson enlisted in July of 1862 into company F, of the 21st Connecticut Infantry, and mustered out August 6, 1863, transferring to the Veteran Reserve Corps (formerly the Invalid Corps), in the 19th regiment. He was discharged on July 13, 1865. The reason for his disability was not noted.
Colonel Prevost, 16th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps, commissioned as a captain in the US Volunteers, Adjutant General’s Department, and discharged on September of 1863. He was then commissioned as colonel of the PA 118th Infantry. Resigning on September 30. 1863 due to a wound received at the battle at Shepherdstown, West Va. on Sept. 20, 1862. he transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps, with the sale rank of colonel, and again discharged on June 30, 1865.
The document is printed on standard letter sized paper, in printed form style. This is from a small batch of documents from Captain Charles Fenton, 21st Conn. Infantry.
