Model 1816 Conversion Bayonet, made in the 1850’s for the 1816 muskets that had been converted to percussion. Made to fit both U.S. and contract muskets. Many of these most likely saw service in the Civil War.
The blade is 18″ with a fuller that runs nearly the entire length of the blade, and marked U.S. on the shank. Socket is 3.”
Smooth even finish, with some small sporadic pitting.
Very good condition.
