A fine example with most of the original gilt finish, and excellent blade.
This fine quality gilt helmeted pommel, non regulation militia officer sword, retains most of its original finish. The plumed helmet looks outward, sitting atop two piece mother of pearl grips with fine twisted grip wire, held firm with a ferrel adorned with acanthus leaves. The decorative knuckle bow is simply cast, and a full guard displays a spread-winged federal eagle with shield, over a sunburst.
The front of the scabbard is engraved and punch decorated, completely plain on the reverse. Ring mounts are affixed in place.
The single edged blade is finely etched with panoply of arms, and floral work; a federal eagle clutching olive branch and arrows has a banner that reads, E. Pluribus Unum. Most of the blade has all the original bright polish and frosty etching, with some sporadic blemishing toward the ricasso; with a hint of old rust in a few tiny places only. The original leather washer remains in place. Overall, the blade has age old fine scuffing from handling, but looking at the photos, you can see it is minimal.
