Description
Original McDowell Pattern Forage Cap. A great example of private purchase by individuals and states. Easily recognized by the short rounded unbound visor, and a five inch crown that gently falls forward toward the brim. The forage cap show no evidence of ever having any insignia applied to it.
Made of fine quality dark blue wool. The original chin strap has the thin stamped brass buckle, held in place by 2 cuff sized General Service buttons. There are some areas of mothing, but nothing glaring; a most suitable display item.
The interior is finished with a brown polished cotton lining, laid down behind the sweat band and then sewn down to keep it in place. The leather sweatband and cotton lining show use, and some wear, but generally very good condition for its age.
No sizing, or any other labels or evidence of any. Approximate size is 6 3/4-7.
A great looking cap, all original
