A sweet gold badge for a unit that served all during the Civil War.
This G.A.R. Post No. 2, Philadelphia badge has the typical “T” bar pin with open catch. Blue enamel is used on the upper section to highlight lettering, and red enamel is used in the gold 6th Army Corps badge suspended below with a single link. With the 6th Corps badge is the unit for this veteran, the “82 P.V.”
The 82nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was active during the war from August of 1861 to July of 1865, and took part in most of the important eastern battles of the Civil War. This unit was formed in Philadelphia.
