Description
1st Lieutenant George A. Drew, Acting Regimental Quartermaster for the 3rd U.S. Cavalry, made out this document (in triplicate, this being one copy) to clear his accounts with the Treasury Dept. concerning the sales of quartermaster supplies to various officers at Fort Laramie, Wyoming in Sept. of 1877.
The first page is the cover letter on official stationary, and signed by Drew.
Next is the accounting page, all in manuscript show the sales of items such a campaign hats, trousers, etc. and a good deal of blue material for making officer’s uniforms. Amounts and cost given.
Both pages are signed, official Treasury Dept. marking on the docket.
Very good condition, make out during the period of hard campaigning on the plains. Fort Laramie is one of the oldest established post in the west, the starting off point for many campaigns against the Plains Indians, and a favorite place for westward wagon trains to stop and rest and repair before continuing on the Oregon Trail.
