Description
The badge of the Association of Survivors, Regular Brigade, Fourteenth Corps, Army of the Cumberland, and was adopted at the birth of the organization in 1883. The badges were made by Messrs. Torch and Lee, 25 Baltimore St., Baltimore, Md., and were made of good metal and heavily plated and of good workmanship. Originally, the price was $1.50 cash.
The condition of this badge is fine, showing some wear. The “T” bar pin is attached on the reverse. There is no history of ownership with this piece.
The four regular army regiments that made up this brigade, were the 15th, 16th, 18th, and 19th Infantries. The Regular Brigade was mightily used during the civil war, and as an example, just after the Battle of Jonesboro, during the Atlanta Campaign, the 18th US Infantry was all but reduced to a detachment sized regiment, that was sent back to Chattanooga to recoup and reorganize. The other regiments suffered greatly as well. By 1883, I can easily believe that the number of members in this organization was small compared to other veteran groups, making this a scarce badge.
